UPDATES: SEAWALL STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT, STORMWATER MASTER PLAN, MEETING WITH HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATIONS

In 2019, the Town of Lake Park secured a Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant to complete the following:

  1. Conduct a topographic survey of the area
  2. Assess the seawall’s structural condition
  3. Determine seawall repair/replacement costs
  4. Prepare an inundation map
  5. Summarize all findings in a comprehensive report (Report)

In August of 2021, the Town of Lake Park recently held two informational meetings with representatives from local waterfront Homeowner Associations (HOAs) in order to discuss the Report, highlighting the structural condition of the .8- mile seawall that protects public and private property in the Town’s easternmost limits. These meetings included comprehensive presentations from Town staff, the Town’s building official, and three water resources/maritime engineering consultants.

HOA representatives learned that sections of the seawalls are in immediate need of repair, and they are responsible for the portions of the seawall abutting their properties, while the Town is responsible for the portions of the seawall in front of Lake Shore Park and the Lake Park Harbor Marina. Further, the HOA representatives were advised of the pressing need to:

  1. Meet with their respective membership to discuss the results of the study
  2. Select a repair strategy based on the options outlined in the study
  3. Obtain a cost estimate
  4. Secure funding from private and/or public sources to implement repair strategy
  5. Complete seawall repair work
  6. Raise seawall by two feet in order to mitigate impact from sea level rise (SLR)

The seawall structural assessment, related survey, and inundation maps, as well as the presentation from the HOA meeting, are all available for review by clicking the links below.

If you have any questions about the seawall, please feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 561-881-3345 or via email at publicworks@lakeparkflorida.gov.
